Because the suspension of parental sponsorship is still in effect until November 2013, the Super Visa remains a good option for parents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who wish to visit British Columbia for up to two years and they do not have to renew their status every 6 months. The only proviso is that the parent must be able to show private health coverage in the amount of $100,000 for a minimum of twelve months and, if there are health issues, costs for obtaining the same could be prohibitive. Also it is important to consult with a Canadian accountant to advise on Canadian taxation rules which could come into play if the parent visits in excess of 6 months.
